Metal and Materials
Metal products are used in every industry, including construction, transportation, electronics, manufacturing, medical devices, and consumer products. It is important to understand the properties of metals when designing products and choosing manufacturing processes.
In this course, you’ll learn how to describe and compare the properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids, you’ll be able to describe the mechanical properties of metals, including strength, toughness, ductility, malleability, brittleness, and hardness, you’ll know how to compare the composition, properties, and uses of cast, wrought, and pig iron and how to compare the composition, properties, and uses of plain carbon, alloy, stainless, and tool steels. Finally, you’ll be able to identify which heat treatment methods can be used on various steels and steel alloys.
