Introduction to safety

499

Before the 1970s, workplace accidents were common. The OSH Act was the first national standard to address workplace health and safety. This act created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), an organization that guarantees the rights of employees to a safe workplace.

In this course you’ll learn who OSHA does and does not cover, you’ll understand the job hazard analysis process and you’ll know each step of an OSHA inspection. You’ll learn to understand both employer and employee responsibilities and to conduct a hazard assessment. You’ll be able to describe what a hazardous material is and why it’s important. You’ll also be able to understand the importance of housekeeping, to identify walkways and exits and to create an ergonomic work environment.
